Map Rotterdam Affected 1940
This map shows the entire area of Rotterdam at which most buildings were destroyed by the bombardment of May 14, 1940,
and the following fire blaze (Eastward).
Clearly one can see that at the area of the painting, the Nieuwe Werk (Northern shore, bottom left) only some blocks of houses were destroyed and that - thankfully, because it's a beautiful area of Rotterdam, most of the Nieuwe Werk was not destroyed.
Sad to see is that the area basically covers Rotterdam's entire city centre.
Rotterdam is an old city, dating back for centuries, and unfortunately all of it's historical centre has in fact disappeared since.
